The moral dilemma

and the HENCHMAN chapter 8!

One way to create tension for your character, and really pull readers in, is to create a moral dilemma for your character. In this situation, your character has two choices and will seem to lose either way. What will they do?

These dilemmas reveal what’s important to the character and force them to make difficult choices. For example, will the heroine save the man she loves or a school full of children from being eaten by zombies? She can’t save both.

In my latest book, Shield of the King, I place the heroine, Elowen, in such a position toward the end. No spoilers, but she has to choose and will lose either way.
